Chancellor's Dinner

2009 Chancellor’s Dinner

Chancellor’s Dinner Benefits Merit Scholarships

The sound of the bagpipes at dusk called about 250 campus friends and donors to the first Chancellor’s Dinner to benefit merit scholarships for UCR students on Oct. 17. Colorful lights transformed Highlander Union Building’s main meeting room into a gala venue, a showcase for the stories of UC Riverside scholarship recipients and the donors who make those scholarships possible. Pre-dinner student entertainment along with wine and hors d’oeuvres in the HUB plaza got the evening started on the right note, including the insistent rhythms from Taiko drummers. Chancellor Timothy P. White spoke of the need for UCR scholarships, and a video made the case for giving scholarship money. Students talked about how important it is to feel chosen for a named scholarship. Donors said it feels so good to be doing something meaningful. Cindy Le and Gary McCord were honored for professional accomplishments with Alumni Awards of Distinction. Chancellor White presented the UCR Medallion to the Milton W. Stratford family for numerous scholarship donations. The event was sponsored by the UCR Alumni Association and the UCR Foundation.
